There aren’t too many cases available for the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, so it’s even more important that the official case puts in a good show. Thankfully, the SCR28 case has very few limitations. Click through to read our full impressions.
Sony highlights the screen auto wake/sleep and comfortable viewing angles on its packaging.
We are reviewing the black SCR28 Style Cover Stand. The case is made out of PU leather and has a good solid feel and weight.
The back cover includes a perfectly aligned cutout for the camera lens. The ridge you see going down the case is used for the stand functionality.
The picture below does not do the case justice in how slim it is. It doesn’t feel like it impedes the thickness of the device and offers a good level of protection, although it is a shame that it doesn’t offer any kind of latch to keep the front cover closed.
The top of the tablet is completely covered by the plastic shell of the case.
This is the same for the bottom of the tablet, apart from an opening for the microUSB port.
The corners of the tablet are covered to help protect against any small bumps/scrapes. This leaves enough room at the top for the 3.5mm headphone jack.
The case and tablet combined weighs 406 grams (the tablet alone weighs 270 grams).
The case adds very little bulk to the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and has a premium look and feel. It also has a screen wake/sleep function when the front cover is opened/closed.
The inside cover has a rubberised texture which helps prop the tablet at various angles. The only negative with this texture is that it can attract dust more easily than a smooth surface.
The case does not get in the way of the stereo speakers on the front of the case.
An arched cutout on the plastic shell on the rear of the case allows the tablet to easily be used with the magnetic charging dock.
Overall thoughts
Overall, we enjoyed using the case – it is stylish, lightweight, offers a sleep/wake function and provides access to all ports. The SCR28 is also compatible with the magnetic charging dock too. The only niggle is the lack of any latch to keep the case closed, but thankfully the front cover doesn’t open on its own. This is an easy recommendation for us to make to any Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact owner, we found that the SCR28 case really complements the device.
