Samsung Remind Us The Galaxy S5’s Waterproofing Includes Snow

AH Samsung Galaxy S5 -15

There were two notable smartphone flagship releases in 2014 that offered a waterproof, or at least a water resistant, device: the Sony Xperia Z3 range and the Samsung Galaxy S5. Now, Sony have used waterproofing technologies for their flagship devices for some time but the Galaxy S5 was Samsung’s first mainstream waterproof device. And with the handset being launched in the spring, peoples’ minds turned to outdoor pursuits, of surfing or camping or mountain biking through muddy puddles, of having a great time and not having to worry about the Galaxy S5 getting wet. This is all great, but after those early months of outdoor water pursuits, many of us are enduring the long nights, short days and cold weather. Unfortunately, across most of the United Kingdom, a proper white Christmas is relatively rare but that doesn’t stop me appreciating Samsung’s latest promotional video, which you can watch at the bottom of this article.

I will reintroduce the Samsung Galaxy S5, which until the Samsung Galaxy Note, represented the brands’ most powerful device. The S5 is based around a 2.5 GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, paired up with 2 GB of RAM – the chipset offers better performance and lower power consumption compared with the previous generation Snapdragon 600 processor used in the Galaxy S4. There’s a 5.1-inch, 1080p Super AMOLED screen that offers reduced power consumption compared with the previous generation device even though, on paper, it’s slightly less sharp (to my eyes, I cannot tell a difference in visual sharpness). There’s a 16 MP rear camera and the usual array of sensors and networks, including high speed WiFi, 4G LTE, Bluetooth and NFC. The S5 also comes with a heart rate sensor and a fingerprint sensor, too. There’s a replaceable 2,800 mAh battery and the device runs Android 4.4 Kit Kat and is to be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop soon enough. Oh and did I mention that the device is waterproof?

Essentially, Samsung’s clip is to remind us that because their flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 device has waterproofing technologies, it is also snow proof. Samsung get across the point by using a snowman character plus it includes links to allow you to do the same. And you know, whilst I admire how my HTC One hangs together and prefer HTC Sense to Samsung TouchWiz, if I were to drop my One into a puddle of slush I don’t expect it to survive, whereas if I bought the Galaxy S5 it would likely be okay.
