Get them while you can – that would be the Samsung Galaxy Alpha… this time in white from Rogers for $0 down on a two-year contract or $700 outright on a no term contract. While the Galaxy Alpha is an AT&T exclusive in the U.S., it is widely available in Canada on Bell, Virgin, SaskTel, TELUS, Videotron and Rogers in basic black, although Bell and Virgin also offered the White and Gold model. Rogers will now making the move to add the white version to its offerings.
The Galaxy Alpha sports a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels with 312 pixels-per-inch (PPI), and with a display that size it is still very nice looking. It has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz as found in the Galaxy S5. It also has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage and no expansion is possible, which is rather strange with a Samsung device. It uses a 12MP sensor for the main camera with auto-focus and LED flash and a 2.1MP front-facing camera (FFC) for selfies. Power is provided with a 1860mAh removable battery and it is equipped with a fingerprint scanner, heart rate monitor, metal frame, bottom mounted speaker and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat.
There was a lot of speculation as to why Samsung came out from the Galaxy Alpha – was it to replace their Galaxy S5 with metal… not with that 720p display. It was a mixture of high and low specs with a high price. Was the Galaxy Alpha cannibalizing sales of the Galaxy S5 or was it simply an experiment in metal to get a reaction from the public? Whatever was going through their thought process, it looks like the experiment may be over as yesterday reports were out that Samsung was removing the Galaxy Alpha from its lineup. Rumor has it that Samsung will scale back the specs and sell the device at a lower price so there will be no competition with its own Galaxy S series, possibly calling it the Galaxy A5.
Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know if you plan on getting the Samsung Galaxy Alpha, or if you have one, do you like it… as always, we would love to hear from you.
