Nvidia Begins To Roll Shield Tablet Software Upgrade 2.1 With Android Lollipop 5.0.1 And Other Enhancements

Shield Tablet

The Nvidia Shield Tablet is getting a brand new update today, which brings it forward to Android 5.0.1 Lollipop. While this is Android 5.0.1, this will be the Shield Tablet’s 2.1 software upgrade, bringing in some new features that are specific to the Shield Tablet itself. Android 5.0.1 is primarily about bug fixes or at least it has been for virtually every other device that has gotten that version of the software, and we’re not seeing anything different here as Nvidia states this is just a minor release with a few bug fixes and updates. The Shield tablet does get a few nice new features that are specific to the Shield tablet though as part of the Nvidia software upgrade, like new effects in the Camera Awesome application.

This update should also improve the responsiveness between apps as part of the system performance enhancements that have been made, so users should see an improvement in general UI and things should just feel more fluid, fast, and smooth overall after the update is finished. We mentioned a couple new enhancements to the Camera Awesome application, and those enhancements will see users have access to some cool new creative effects for stills and videos, adding to the overall experience of Camera Awesome.

Other additions that come along with this update are OpenGL 4.5 support, localization improvements, and Nvidia has brought back the Shield Power Control Menu based on community feedback. So basically, you asked for it and Nvidia listened. After having to deal for sometime without the power control menu it’s back and ready to serve. Nvidia has also made some memory optimizations in this update which will mostly affect memory intensive apps, like high-end games for example. The update to this newer version of software should be rolling out to your devices as we speak so check your software updates from the settings menu and see if the OTA is waiting for you. You might also see this pop up in the status bar up top, and like with all updates, even minor ones, we recommend that you have at least 50% battery life before you proceed with trying to download the software and install it. If you’re an owner of the Nvidia Shield Tablet, how do you like it so far and what do you think of the Lollipop software versus the Android Kit Kat build that was launched with the device?
