Are you tired of all the smart home hubs on the market that just sort of sit there? Sure they may be…routing or whatever it is they do inside, but for the most part they’re just another piece of plastic you need to find a shelf for. Lucis understands the problem and wants to change it with a true smart home hub called NuBryte.
On the surface, NuBryte looks like a shiny, wall-mounted touchscreen for controlling your lights, but it can also does a lot more. Think of it as a tablet dedicated to family life and connected with your phone and computer. Yes, its primary controls work with lighting, but the system goes deeper than that.
With the LearningLights system you can turn on or off any compatible bulbs in the house, specifically any normal lights that the touchscreen is directly wired to (no smart bulbs required). You can create schedules for lighting to turn on at specific times, set sensors to turn off lights when you leave, and receive energy reports on how much electricity you are using. The directly connected lights can also be dimmed or brightened.
The security side of the NuBryte smart home hub will flash the lights and send smartphone alerts if the device is armed and detects unwanted guests. The NuBryte touchscreen also includes a 120-degree camera, so you can get a wireless look at the room from your phone no matter where you are at and decide if you need to call the police.
The smart home hub also comes with a number of organizational features, including a family calendar, an intercom to talk from room to room, and weather updates.
A big question about NuBryte is how many of the hubs you need – a smart home hub is a singular device, but Lucis seems to hint at installing one in every major room. The company is sending a few mixed signals on this account: Apparently one hub can control sufficient home lighting through the touchscreen or your smartphone app, but it isn’t quite clear how. Perhaps Lucis thinks that smart lights in one room are all you need, or is aiming at the high-end side of the market that can afford spending a couple hundred dollars on every room. Other hubs can offer more security, light control, intercoms and cameras for additional rooms if necessary.
You’ll have to wait a bit for more details on NuBryte, but if you want to preorder right away for a limited time price of $149.
