LG preparing to battle Samsung after registering ‘G Pen’ trademark

Samsung enjoys a ton of success with devices featuring displays larger than 5 inches. In fact, the company is probably credited with making such devices normal. The original Galaxy Note was introduced in 2011 with a 5.3-inch display. Now, there are many devices matching or even besting that size. Everything just keeps getting bigger. The Galaxy Note 4, which was released in October, shipped with a 5.7-inch display. There has yet to be any viable threat to the Galaxy Note series, but LG seems to have something to say about that.

A trademark surfacing recently reveals that LG registered the ‘G Pen’ name. The document representing the trademark does not give away any details. And the application of the G Pen is unknown at this time. It could be used for the upcoming G4 handset, but that is a long shot. Earlier this year, the company introduced the G3 Stylus but it was met with little reaction. Perhaps LG will pack its G Pen into a flagship handset to be a differentiator; however, it could be used as the selling point for an entirely new series that will (apparently) rival the Galaxy Note.

If LG developed its own device with a 5.7-inch display and a stylus, would you be interested? Let us know in the comments.
