Wireless charging is slowly becoming a standard for smartphones (even if an actual standard cannot be decided). Tablet, on the other hand, have received very little attention when it comes to wireless charging. Hardware just do not seem to care about the feature for tablets. The primary reason for that is because the current technology would have a tablet charging at an extremely slow pace. Freescale, a company that his its roots with Motorola, is developing a solution that would bring wireless charging to tablets.
The company is working on a 15-watt wireless charging system. The wireless charging system Freescale is developing charges tablets with three times that wattage of a smartphone’s wireless charging system. Tablets are not the only focus, however. Freescale says everything from power tools to medicals devices are also supported.
So, what standard is Freescale basing its wireless charging solution on? The Qi wireless charging standard. But do not groan just yet because Freescale claims that it does also work with the wireless charging standards from the Wireless Power Consortium and the Power Matters Alliance.
