Earlier this morning Motorola started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop to the 2nd Gen. Moto G, and now they’re beginning to roll out the update to the 2nd Gen. Moto X too. We know this probably makes some Nexus 5 users enter ultimate form best mode rage, but if you’re on Sprint using a Nexus 5 those have begun rolling out already too so at least there’s that. This update is for the Moto X 2nd Gen. Pure Edition to be more specific, so we aren’t exactly sure when the Moto X 2nd Gen. specific to carriers will get their updates unfortunately. For the Pure Edition owners, this means you’ll begin to see your device in bold new visual style with vibrant colors everywhere you look thanks to the presence of Material Design within the UI.
Along with those colors comes the smooth vivid animations, new typography, and edge to edge imagery. This also brings in the new “Downtime” and “Interruption” settings where you can put certain notifications on a priority list and block others so you don’t get interrupted during movies, games or other videos, a feature that will be widely appreciated no doubt. Android 5.0 Lollipop also introduces the “Guest Mode” feature to your Moto X so you can so you can more easily allow others to use your device, and you can pin a view to limit the user to a specific application, like say a game if you’re letting your kids use the device for example.
With the new flashlight option in quick settings,(something that’s been part of many custom ROMs for quite a while)you’ll be able to easily use the LED flash from the back camera any time you need to find something in the dark. Believe me, this comes in handy more times than you’d think. The update also brings along some changes to the battery menu in settings. The battery settings panel now gives users a projection of how much time is left before you need to charge your device, and if you’re running low you can enable a new battery saving feature that will take your performance down a notch or two and also reduce most background data operations. If you use one of these device you should already be seeing this update hit your status bar, so check your notifications.
