Gionee has recently announced a rather interesting device and a few days later offered it for sale in India. I’m talking about a Gionee Marathon M3 device, a mid-range handset with a massive 5,000mAh battery which I’m sure some people will be more than interested in. More manufacturers should start making handset with such batteries included in my humble opinion, but with a somewhat better specs sheet. You might also remember Gionee Elife S5.1 handset which was the thinnest smartphone in the world until Oppo launched their R5 handset recently. This Chinese manufacturer is active yet again in India, though this time Gionee isn’t releasing a new handset, but releasing an update to the existing one.
Gionee Elife E3 is yet another mid-range device by the company which was released in 2013. This device originally shipped with Android 4.2 JellyBean pre-installed and it is now getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update as well as support for several Indian languages. Keep in mind that you can’t update this phone OTA (Over-The-Air), you have two options when it comes to updating it though. You can either visit the company service center to update it or use the files provided on the company’s website and upload the phone yourself. If you want to do the update yourself, you can find a full guide on how to do that here, though this is not recommended for everyone of course, do it only if you’re confident in your abilities and know what you’re doing.
Here’s a full changelog for the Android 4.4 update:
- Added 9 Local Indian Languages: Hindi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil and Telugu.

- Updated one game: TexasPoker
- Added CamCard, users can conveniently save the contents on business cards into the phone by scanning the card.
- Added TouchPal input method for faster and more efficient typing experience.
- Updated WeChat with a new interactive interface and smoother communication experience.
- Updated UC Browser with optimized UI and page loading effects.
- Updated Saavn for a more enjoyable musical experience.
- Updated NQ Mobile Security for better protection of your phone.
- Updated Kingsoft Office for more efficient work and study related operations.
- Updated GioneeXender for optimized performance and further improved the linking success rate.
