Smartphones have undoubtedly become prestige items in today’s world. This is understandable considering people take their devices with them everywhere and are seen using them constantly. When it’s such an important part of your daily routine and, indeed, your identity it’s no wonder a person would want to be carrying a phone that not only works really well, but looks great too. Like it or not, smartphones have become a fashion accessory for many people and smartphone manufacturers are keenly aware of this. For proof of this one would need to look no further than Motorola’s marketing for their Moto X flagship device. Their Moto Maker service allows consumers to customize their Moto X smartphone like never before. Using the Moto Maker website, you can have your phone encased in materials ranging from bamboo to leather and a multitude of colors are available for all the other details. While the Moto X does bring an amazing level of fashionable customization to the smartphone industry, there are a few luxury brands out there who are really taking this idea to the next level.
Two luxury British brands, namely the smartphone maker Vertu and the car-manufacturer Bentley, recently announced a partnership in which they would release a luxury Android phone for the uber-wealthy that would sell for £10,700. If you’re a person who could afford such luxuries and you feel that’s still not high-end enough, Geneva based luxury jeweler Savelli might have just the thing for you. They have recognized the “smartphone as fashion statement” trend and have decided to release a line of 11 luxury Android phones, in which the most expensive device would set a person back a whopping $250,000. According to Alessandro Savelli, the CEO of the company, “It’s the most important object one has with them all the time – it’s in your hand, it’s in your pocket, it’s next to you when you sleep, you can touch it 100 times a day. I think our customers are really looking for something special.”
While Savelli hasn’t revealed many details in terms of the technical specs of the devices in their line, they have revealed what sort of materials they will be using to justify their extravagant price tags. Phones from Savelli will be encased in 18-carat gold and encrusted with diamonds, sapphires or emeralds. Other pricey finishes can also be chosen for the phones, like ostrich or python. According to them, Savelli wants to cater to people who really want to make a statement with their phone and have it reflect their sense of style.
