Aorus have been around for quite a while now, building a fine reputation for making extreme performance laptops. This week they launched their latest X7 Pro, a beast of a notebook that combines a full bore Intel i7 processor with no less than two high-performance Nvidia 970M graphics chips and a RAID SSD array to form one of the most bad-ass mobile gaming machines we have ever come across.

The Aorus X7 Pro takes no prisoners in its quest to deliver an enthusiast level gaming experience in Notebook form. The X7 Pro is built around 17.3″ Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS LCD display that features an anti-glare finish. In terms of processing, the Intel i7-4870HQ, a quad-core Haswell based CPU that is clocked at 2.5GHz and turbo clock of 3.7GHz. This is accompanied by 16GB of DDR3 RAM (max configuration 32GB) and a choice of several storage options due to the devices’ three mSATA slots. These can be populated by up to three mSATA SSDs in a RAID O configuration for an incredibly responsive machine that loads apps in moments. There’s also space for a regular 2.5 inch drive so you have plenty of space for your games.

The real highlight of this mobile rig however, has to be the pair of Nvidia graphics chips. Nvidia 970M and 980M GPUs are the very latest mobile offerings from Nvidia, and if the benchmarks that Aorus are quoting are true, these guys are impressive performers. Aorus have opted to go for a SLI configuration with a pair of 970M chips working in tandem, each equipped with 3GB of dedicated DDR5 graphics memory to ensure optimal bandwidth. Aorus are quoting scores of over 14,000 points in 3DMark 11, which should essentially mean that the device churn through virtually any game you throw at it on high quality visual settings.

The Aorus X7 Pro has g/n/ac WiFi, Gigabit LAN and Bluetooth 4.0, a healthy three USB 3.0 ports and two USB 2.0 ports. If you want to connect additional displays you have plenty of options with both full size HDMI and mini-Display ports, plus a good old fashioned D-Sub port. This allows you to connect up to three monitors at resolutions of up to 5780 x 1080.

The remarkable thing about the Aorus X7 pro is that, despite having all this glorious high-end hardware it is actually reasonably thin at 22.9mm, with a weight of around 3kg. The device also sports a backlit keyboard, a pair of 2 watt stereo speakers plus woofers and a 73wh battery.
