Interesting inventions and gadgets have been popping up here and there, each with its own innovation and technology. Kickstarter has featured one gem known as Ampy, a portable powerbank with a unique mechanic. It basically stores power to charge your devices, using kinetic energy, and not the conventional way which was to simply charge it using a wall charger (although you are still able to). How Ampy is powered is based on motion, that varies from walking, running, or even riding a bicycle.
The company, also named Ampy, has claimed that through walking an average of 10,000 steps a day, would provide enough kinetic power to provide your mobile phone for up to 3 hours of usage. The equivalent would be a half hour run, or an hour on the bike. This is a pretty nifty idea, as it provides both power and exercise at the same time. The powerbank even has its own handy app, that’s a cross between a fitness tracking app, telling you how many calories you have burned, and a power counter to track how much you have charged your Ampy.
Although Ampy seems to be a very innovative and helpful concept, the battery pack is only 1,000mAh, which is very little, even for a mobile device these days. One of the most useful features it will have, is being able to charge your device while moving with AMPY, making it indirectly charging your device immediately through motion.
Ampy’s Kickstarter page has been well received by the public, accumulating pledges of $117,160, exceeding their target of $100,000, with even 27 days remaining. This leaves them plenty of time to accumulate more. Ampy is available for $85(About RM277). For an additional $10, you will even receive an accessory pack, which will give you a an arm band, sleeve, and a clip for your Ampy. International shipping is possible and is expected to be delivered by next year June 2015.
