Featured: Top 10 Best Bluetooth Speakers for the Samsung Galaxy S6

Speakers-AH-1

The Galaxy S6 has a pretty adequate speaker already, but if you want better sound, you may want to look at getting a Bluetooth Speaker. They come in all shapes and sizes, as well as prices. We’ve gathered ten of our favorites and they are all listed down below.

Symphonized NXT Premium Genuine Bamboo Wood Bluetooth Portable Speaker

A1VHLnDyIZL._SL1500_

This speaker has a Bamboo wood outer casing, which looks really great on your desk or night stand. It has about 6 hours of playtime, but that will depend on the volume you’re using it at. Additionally Symphonized has given it a 1 year warranty. So if it breaks on you, you can get it replaced easily.

Symphonized NXT Premium Genuine Bamboo Wood Bluetooth Portable Speaker

Anker Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

61tPj6ANncL._SL1000_

This Anker speaker is portable, it’s also got a pretty amazing battery inside. Anker touts this one as having 20 hours of battery life. It also features high-definition sound. We’ll let you be the judge of that.

Anker® Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker with 20 Hour Battery Life and Full, High-Def Sound

Venstar Mini Subwoofer Sound Pod

51Py8Gub8iL._SL1024_

This Venstar speaker is a pretty mighty speaker, with a subwoofer inside. It supports Bluetooth 3.0, unfortunately it’s not Bluetooth 4.0 on this one. There’s also an internal microphone so you can use it to take and make calls.

Venstar Mini Subwoofer Sound Pod

Bose SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker

71NtWjDdPLL._SL1500_

The Bose SoundLink is one of my favorites. It’s a bit more expensive than some of these other Bluetooth speakers around here, but definitely worth it. The SoundLink puts out some amazing sound, and has some pretty stellar battery life as well.

Bose SoundLink Color Bluetooth Speaker (Black)

JAM Classic Bluetooth Wireless Speaker

413lNcmfATL

The JAM Classic speaker is another one of my favorites. It’s a pretty small and compact speaker, but you’d be surprised by the sound that it outputs. It also has some pretty amazing battery life of around 10-12 hours. Not bad for under $30, right?

JAM Classic Bluetooth Wireless Speaker (Blueberry) HX-P230BL

Ultimate Ears BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker

81ZCuR1vyyL._SL1500_

Ultimate Ears is a sub-brand of Logitech, and boy do they make some amazing products. the BOOOM wireless speaker is a great one to have around. It is near the $200 mark, but between the amazing 360-degree sound, the battery life and the look and feel of this speaker, it’s tough to pass it up.

Ultimate Ears BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker – Black

Scosche boomSTREAM mini Portable Bluetooth Wireless Media Speaker

41TzDkrlsyL

This small, $20 speaker works with all Bluetooth devices. It also touts about 7 hours of battery life. Not bad when you consider the size and price of this one from Scosche.

Scosche boomSTREAM mini Portable Bluetooth Wireless Media Speaker – Red

Beats Pill Portable Speaker

71w14bYhZAL._SL1500_

The Beats Pill is also a great speaker. It comes in all kinds of colors and isn’t cheap. However, it is pretty light and portable, which is really what matters. It gives you some amazing sound, with plenty of bass as well.

Beats Pill Portable Speaker (Red) – Newest Model

Ultimate Ears MINI BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker/Speakerphone

81X2Hpk5reL._SL1500_

If you don’t want to shell out the money for the Ultimate Ears BOOM Speaker, the Mini BOOM will probably satisfy you. It’s about half the price, but still plenty of sound coming out of this thing. Plus a ton of battery life. I have one myself, and can normally get about 10-15 hours of battery life out of it easily.

Ultimate Ears MINI BOOM Wireless Bluetooth Speaker/Speakerphone – Black

FUGOO Style

81NdkRIsfGL._SL1500_

This is another one of my favorites. While the Fugoo Style may not look pretty, it does get the job done. It’s waterproof, and shockproof. It also has three different jackets that you can purchase that makes it even tougher. In fact, you can run it over with a car and it’ll still be fine.

FUGOO Style

Braven BRV-X Portable Wireless Speaker

71SuwBWQo1L._SL1500_

Braven always makes some amazing speakers, and the BRV-X is no exception. This is a portable wireless speaker that’s super durable, and it has a built in battery to charge up your devices. So you can charge up while listening to music. Sounds like a win/win to me.

Google could be working on a telemeeting platform called “GMeet”

google meetings gmeet

Teleconferencing is all the rage with businesses in the internet age, and Google is just as poised as anyone to provide a platform suitable for the types of corporate meetings that have to take place in such a manner. If Hangouts video calling wasn’t already enough, the company could be working on a standalone platform meant specifically for businesses.

Google+ user (Google+er?) Florian Kiersch stumbled across a new app in the works by Google called GMeet, or Google Meeting. Details are largely unclear at this time, but from the outside looking in the app doesn’t seem all that different from something such as Goto Meeting. You sign in, you join a meeting, and you (presumably) conference over voice and/or video.

gmeet-2 Kiersch says the app only accepts Googler logins right now, so it’s unclear if this is a tool meant for internal use by Google or if it’s a user-facing service where the prerequisite only exists to make sure prying eyes can’t get an early look at what’s inside ahead of any official announcement.

Searches for G Meet and Google Meeting pull up interesting anecdotes and code snippets from as far back as 2011, but most of the code references things we already have access to in the latest rendition of Hangouts, such as whiteboards, screen sharing, and integration with Google Calendar. A URL that once existed in the code (google.com/talk/meet) also now redirects to Hangouts’ main landing page.

A standalone meeting app would likely use Hangouts technology for its backbone so there’s nothing out of the ordinary than meets the eye. But until we can get into the app for ourselves or get an announcement from Google, we’re left to our educated guesses. Let’s hope to hear more in the very near future!

[Thanks, Florian!]

LG teases the amazing camera with f/1.8 aperture on the upcoming G4 [Video]

LG_G4_Teaser_F_1.8_Camera_01

LG sent us an invitation this morning to join them in New York City on April 28 for the unveiling of the G4. They also included a short teaser video which reveals that the G4 will feature a camera with a f/1.8 aperture.

This would put the G4 ahead of Samsung’s f/1.9 aperture on the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. We have already seen what those phones can do in low light so imagine how much better the G4 might be. The G3 had a fantastic camera so I am expecting big things from the G4.

Hit the break for the short teaser video, and you can also check out LG’s first look of the software that will be on the G4.

HTC One M10 Concept Images Highlight What Was Expected From The HTC One M9

HTC One M10 Render7

Although last month saw the release of what seems to be the highly popular Samsung Galaxy S6, this was not the only device released. In fact, another massive hitter was finally unveiled at MWC in the form of the HTC One M9. This was HTC’s latest incarnation of their One series and followed on from the HTC One M8. However, for a lot of people, the One M9 seemed to follow on from the One M8, a little too closely. It was, just too much of the same looking device. Especially when the Galaxy S6 seemed to come with a complete refinement and upgrade in appearance.

This seemingly widespread disappointment was also in spite of the One M9 coming loaded with some top notch specs including a 5-inch IPS LCD display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, the One M9 also comes loaded with 3GB RAM and powered by Qualcomm’s highly talked about Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor. Not to mention, a 20-megapixel camera on the back and a 4 megapixel offering on the front. As well as the now HTC typical BoomSound speakers, a 2,840mAh battery and of course, running on Android 5.0 (Lollipop). So overall, an excellent phone. That said, it still did not stop those who were expected more of a physical change from criticising the current offering.

Well, if you were one of those who thought the One M9 should have come with more of a change then was actually offered, then you might want to take a look at these new concept images which have surfaced of what the One M10 could look like. In fact, as these were created to address the lack of change on the One M9, maybe it is more appropriate to state that this is what the One M10 should look like. Either way, the images highlight an upgrade in the presentation of the device with a nice mix of metal, glass and scratched aluminium. Not to mention, the moving of a couple of elements including the volume buttons and the inclusion of a USB Type C connector on the bottom. You can check all the full selection of M10 concept images below.

Samsung’s upcoming round smartwatch will be be called the Gear A, can make phone calls

samsung-round-watch-05

We have been hearing a lot about the upcoming Samsung smartwatch. We know it’s round, and we thought it might be called the Orbis, but it appears that’s the code name.

It looks like it will be called the Gear A. Samsung will offer two versions, one with basic Bluetooth connectivity, and the other with 3G support. Both will have Wi-Fi as well, and the 3G version will also be able to make phone calls.

SamMobile was also able to obtain all the model numbers, which include…

  • SM-R720 (non 3G)

  • SM-R730 (3G)

  • SM-R730A (AT&T)

  • SM-R730P (Sprint)

  • SM-R730V (Verizon)

  • SM-R730T (T-Mobile)

  • SM-R730S

  • SM-R732S (SKT)

  • SM-R732K (KT)

  • SM-R732L (LG U+)

With Android Wear gaining steam and the Apple Watch launching very soon, can Samsung be successful doing their own thing?

Samsung expects to take a 30% dip in profit for Q1 2015, but the Galaxy S6 should make up for that

Samsung Logo DSC08668

Samsung has posted an early outlook for their Q1 2015 results, and the numbers don’t look great. Compared to the same quarter a year ago, the company suffered a 30% drop in profit, from 8.5 trillion Korean won ($7.79 billion) down to 5.9 trillion ($5.44 billion). That hit was also reflected in overall revenue with 47 trillion Korean won ($43 billion) compared to 53.68 trillion ($49.18 billion) a year ago.

Samsung has been on this downward slope for more than a year now largely thanks to their mobile division, though they haven’t experienced much of a drop off quarter-over-quarter. The company posted 52.73 trillion Korean won in total revenue last quarter, but just 5.29 trillion in profit. Increased profit on decreased revenue doesn’t seem to be a bad deal to us.

Still, Samsung needs to bounce back in a big way, and the company is hopeful that the forthcoming launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 in just three days will change that. They’ve already recorded their highest pre-sales ever for a Galaxy S6 smartphone, and it’s poised to become one of the best selling Android smartphones of all time.

All of that is sure to help them recover quite nicely in 2015, and a renewed focus on premium products will certainly make people want to help them achieve that goal. We’ll have to wait for the full numbers at the end of the month to see what, exactly, caused the drop-off, and we’ll have to wait until next quarter’s results to see what impact, if any, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will ultimately have.

Using the Flashlight App on the HTC One M9

HTC-One-M9-Flashlight-AH-1

You may not realize it, but one of the most popular apps on any phone is the flashlight app. Some phones, don’t have one and you have to go looking in the Play Store for an app. The HTC One M9 doesn’t actually have a flashlight app per say. HTC has added the flashlight toggle to the quick settings. So to access it all you have to do is pull down the notification tray and hit the Flashlight icon in the quick settings section. It’s pretty simple and easy to use.

It’s a great place to put the flashlight. And to keep the app out of the app drawer was a great idea by HTC, and great to keep things simple. Especially seeing as a lot of other devices have the flashlight app in the quick settings now, including my daily driver the Sony Xperia Z3.

Additionally, HTC has made the Flashlight app an option for the on-screen buttons on the HTC One M9. So if you use the flashlight app a whole lot, you can put it right next to the recents key or back button to make it even easier to use. You can also customize its spot in the Quick Settings or remove it altogether.

So in short, getting to the flashlight app in the HTC One M9 is as simple as pulling down the notification bar with two fingers and then hitting the flashlight icon and boom. You’re all set.

Bastion Hits PS4 Today

Today, Bastion makes its debut on PS4 as part of the excellent Spring Fever 2015 lineup!

It’s an exciting moment for us at Supergiant, as you may know us best from our game Transistor, which debuted on PS4 last year. But before that, we created Bastion, and this launch means a whole new slew of people will get to see what that game’s all about. So, whether you’ve never played any of our games, or played and enjoyed Transistor and want to see what else we can do (or count yourself a fan of both and want to play Bastion again), we love you! Thanks to you we get to do what we do every day, and keep on making stuff.

It was always difficult to describe Bastion while the game was in development. We designed the game in an organic way, little by little, listening to what it needed most and building whatever that was next, until we felt that we were done. It didn’t start with an elevator pitch for what would make the next big blockbuster. After all, one of the nice things about being a small, independent studio is you can focus all your energies on making the game you really want to make, and with any luck, you can discover much of that during the process.

We liked to joke about how the pitch for Bastion would have been just awful, and how the game never would have been made if it started off that way: “Well you see it’s this action RPG where an old man talks to you the entire time!” While this is technically accurate, it’s selling the game more than a little short. We wanted Bastion to feel cohesive rather than like a collection of cool features. The trailer we came up with is one of our attempts to convey that.

Bastion on PS4 Bastion on PS4

Thankfully, these days, the success of Bastion helps explain it better than we ever could. For one thing, more than three million people all around the world have bought this game, and for another, it’s earned more than 100 different end-of-year awards and accolades. As you might imagine, this exceeded our wildest fantasies while the game was in development. We just wanted to make a game that felt personal to the seven people on the team, building a game in the living room of a house in a California suburb. We hoped, and did our best to make sure, that it would do well enough that we could stick together and keep going, and make something new (that something was Transistor).

It feels great having made a game we feel has stood the test of time, as the first version of Bastion launched almost four years ago — practically an eternity in game years, yet you wouldn’t know it just from playing this latest version, with its hand-painted scenery running at a silky smooth 60 frames per second in 1080p and all that! And for you completionists out there, it’s another Platinum Trophy you could add to your collection.

Bastion on PS4

We couldn’t have done this without the help of the team at BlitWorks, based over in Barcelona, who we knew would be up to the task from their great work on PS4 versions of great games like Don’t Starve and FEZ. The result is an exacting translation of a game that’s very near and dear to us, and we hope will soon be very near and dear to you.

iFixit Tears down the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

rGxRcAZBBxEnGaYA

iFixit has been quite busy lately. After tearing down the HTC One M9 and revealing what most of us already knew, that it’s almost impossible to repair. They also tore down the Samsung Galaxy S6. Now they’ve torn down the most interesting device so far this year, that’s the Galaxy S6 Edge. Their tear down reveals that the battery is glued to the curved display. Which isn’t a huge surprise, I mean it has to go somewhere. Also, as expected, if you need to replace the display, well that’s gonna cost you. It shouldn’t be a surprise as it is a curved display, and not many of those are out there.

If you take a look at the logic board, you’ll see that the Exynos 7420 is there. Which is a 64-bit 2.1GHz quad-core + 1.5GHz quad-core processor along with Samsung’s K3RG3G30MM-DGCH 3GB of LPDDR4 SDRAM. There’s also 32GB of Samsung’s NAND flash storage inside. Skyworks 78041 Hybrid Multimode Multiband Front-End Module, Samsung’s N5DDPS3 NFC controller. And finally the InvenSense MP65M 6-axis Accel + Gyro, and Samsung C2N89U which is the image processor.

Tear downs like this are always pretty interesting, as it lets us know what all is inside the device. And it appears that this particular model of the Galaxy S6 Edge has no Qualcomm parts at all inside. iFixit also does a good job of letting us know what can be fixed and how difficult it could be. iFixit awarded the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge a repairability score of 3 out of 10. That’s the same score that the HTC One M8 and One M9 both got. So I guess there’s no edge there for Samsung over it’s competition?

You can check out iFixit’s full tear down of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge from the source link below. It’s quite an interesting tear down, actually. iFixit takes out everything, even the physical home button there. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is one of the most talked about devices so far this year, and with good reason. Samsung has gone and made a beautiful smartphone, with some really cool features, and the Edge display looks amazing.

Announcing Avengers: Age of Ultron Pinball

Avengers: Age of Ultron Pinball

Zen Studios’ next Marvel pinball table will be inspired by the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron film! The table will bring the blockbuster action of the film to Zen Pinball 2 on PS3, PS4, and PS Vita on April 21st.

The Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron table will allow players to relive the struggle of Earth’s mightiest heroes, including Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow, and Hawkeye against Ultron and his seemingly endless army. The table features dedicated game modes for each member of the Avengers team, including a first-person sharpshooting mini-game starring Hawkeye, a spectacular aerial melee combat sequence between Iron Man and Ultron, and selectable difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, or Hard) to cater to each player’s individual skill level.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Pinball

Avengers: Age of Ultron Pinball Avengers: Age of Ultron Pinball

As you know, we have created many other Marvel Pinball tables, but nothing is quite like getting to work on a table that is based on a big blockbuster movie like Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s both exhilarating and a bit overwhelming to base a pinball table on a film as it is being made! Often times, final decisions about the film (like costumes, lines, etc.) have not even been made while we’re designing the table, so we have to be able to change with the film as needed. It really keeps us on our toes! We also have to stay true to the filmmakers’ vision while still creating something uniquely fun. Piece of cake, right?

Timing a table release with a film’s release is always a challenge; we have to be careful that there are no leaks, and most of all, no movie spoilers! Marvel’s Avengers is a hulk of a franchise (pun intended!) and we cannot express how proud we are that Marvel trusts us to do the job well. We’re stoked to be a part of this and that we get to share it with all of you. We truly hope you enjoy this table, the film, and more Marvel adventures yet to come.

See you on the leaderboards!

HTC enlists Robinson Cano to smash competitors’ phones with baseball bats for latest ad [VIDEO]

robinson cano htc

HTC is taking a break from Robert Downey Jr’s services to indulge in some baseball fun with Robinson Cano, a world class second baseman hitter for the Seattle Mariners. The baseball player’s task? To knock the competition out of the park… literally.

Someone at a makeshift pitcher’s mound tossed a Samsung Galaxy Note 4, an iPhone 6 and an LG G3 at Robinson Cano, and he proceeded to obliterate them into pieces with his baseball bat. They did it in full, smooth and crisp slow motion video, though obviously not with the lackluster camera sitting on the rear of the HTC One M9.

It’s edgy and bold, though the existence of this ad says something about the tech faithful — they have amnesia. Remember when OnePlus held a contest asking you to “smash the past” in order to win one of their phones and everyone crucified them?

Well, HTC is actually smashing their own phones, and there’s not a single peep to be had. Is that a product of subconscious OnePlus hate or do people simply not care about a company’s actions if they’ve already proven themselves? That’s just a little something to think about when checking this ad out. It gets our attention, that’s for sure.

New LG G4 teaser touts the device’s f/1.8 aperture camera [VIDEO]

lg g4 camera

We’re expecting the LG G4 to be a worthy addition to LG’s most successful line of flagship Android smartphones, and the company isn’t shy about teasing it well ahead of its April 28th revelation. The latest teaser gives us some insight into the camera LG will be using, namely that it’ll sport an aperture limit for f/1.8.

What does this mean? In photography, the size of the aperture determines how much light can hit the sensor. The lower the number, the wider the aperture, the more light can get in. Having a wide aperture is not only crucial for improving low-light photography, but also for creating certain effects in the final image such as the blurred backgrounds (commonly referred to as “bokeh”) you see in a lot of photos such as this one:

Josefina_with_Bokeh

This technique is achieved thanks to the lens’ wider aperture providing enough depth-of-field to separate the foreground from the background. A smartphone camera lens isn’t quite large enough to provide an effect as strong as the one you see above, though they’re as capable as you could hope.

To provide some context, most modern smartphones top out at anywhere between f/2.0 and f/2.2. The Samsung Galaxy S6 boasts an aperture of f/1.9, while the HTC One M9 and Apple iPhone 6 are still sitting at a respectable f/2.2.

Of course, aperture size alone isn’t enough to guarantee the LG G4 will provide a quality low-light photography experience. Things like optical image stabilization (which rumors suggest it will have), lens size and quality, backlighting techniques and more will all have to come into play.

That said, while LG’s camera isn’t necessarily the greatest you’ll find in a smartphone the company hasn’t been known to disappoint in this area. We’ll have to wait until we get a look at the thing in person later this month to judge for ourselves.

ZTE’s General Manager Confirms The Nubia Z9 Will Feature Bezel-Less Design

ZTE-Grand-X-Max-Plus-ZTE-Logo-5

The Nubia Z line is ZTE’s flagship line of devices. The company has announced the Nubia Z9 Mini and Nubia Z9 Max last month, but the company did not reveal the Nubia Z9 as many people were expecting. These devices are direct successors to the Nubia Z7 Mini and Nubia Z7 Max which were announced in July last year. The ZTE Nubia Z9 is an extremely interesting device because of the bezel-free design which was leaked numerous times thus far (even though it wasn’t confirmed), you can check out some of those leaks in the gallery down below. ZTE’s General Manager did say that the device will launch soon, but he did not specify when.

Well, we have some new information regarding this device, and this time it’s official. The aforementioned General Manager of the company, Ni Fei, has decided to share yet another piece of information with the public. He confirmed via his official Weibo (China’s social network) page that the Nubia Z9 will have “no border”. This means that either of the leaked border-less Nubia Z9 designs might pan out in the end, and most of them are really similar actually. Mr. Fei did not reveal the date of the announcement though, which is a shame, but he did once again say that the device will land soon.

That being said, we still don’t know what specifications will the Nubia Z9 sport, but considering the fact this is supposed to be the most powerful device in ZTE’s lineup, its specs will be similar to the ones Z9 Max is sporting. The Nubia Z9 Max features a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 3GB of RAM and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 64-bit octa-core processor. 16 and 8-megapixel cameras are also a part of this package, and are located on the device’s back and front, respectively. Android 5.0.2 Lollipop comes pre-installed here with ZTE’s Nubia UI 2.8 on top of Google’s OS.

The Nubia Z9 will quite probably also be powered by the Snapdragon 810 SoC and will ship with Android Lollipop out of the box. You can also expect 5.X 1080p or QuadHD display to be included here, and the device will sport 3 or 4GB of RAM as well. We can also assume that the Nubia Z9 will sport the same camera sensors as the Nubia Z9 Max. Either way, stay tuned, we’ll let you know when we stumble upon some additional details.
